2 days after the NCAA released (and probably leaked) the NCAA tournament bracket and the NIT got it’s share of quality snubs, UTRGV has made a move to fire head basketball coach Dan Hipsher after the Vaqueros ended an 8-22 campaign.
Hipsher was brought on board April 2013 from the University of Alabama and went 27-66 overall in his three year span. Hipsher guided the Vaqueros to their first three seasons as members of the Western Athletic Conference going 13-31.
With small/mid-major schools like VCU, Butler, and neighboring Texas A&M – Corpus Christi finding regular season success as of late, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that a school as eager to compete with better squads, as UTRGV has shown with their conference moves, would let go of a coach who isn’t getting them their any faster.
No word as of late on who would replace Hipsher.
