There isn’t much of a doubt that the USWNT has been one of the greatest, if not, the greatest Women’s national team for the better part of 16 years, although the results could have led you to believe otherwise. Sans 2011, the USWNT had been ousted in spectacular fashion. In other words, it’s difficult to realize that this is their first World Cup championship since their 1999 Women’s World Cup Final victory over China. A full 4 Women’s World Cups later, a generation of young girls idolizing Mia Hamm and Brianna Scurry have brought the title back to the US and have unquestionably cemented the USWNT’s legacy among the other national teams.
