Floyd Mayweather announced via Facebook that he will face Andre Berto on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
While there were other names that floated around for a bit (a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, at a catch-weight Gennady Golovkin, rematch Miguel Cotto), it looks like Mayweather will end his contract with Showtime, and possibly his career, with a walk-over win to tie all-time great Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record.
Obviously, Berto isn’t exactly the big PPV catch that casual boxing fans will tune in to, or the fight that die-hard boxing fans were looking forward to. Berto is coming off a TKO victory against Josesito Lopez, but he poses absolutely no threat to Mayweather. This “Finding Cheap Auto Insurance Can Be An Adventure” announcement also all but squashes that little idea that floated around the Mayweather might take this fight public on CBS.
Everyone knows this is gonna be a boring fight.
But we know you’re still gonna watch it.
