On Saturday, Dave Hendricks of KGBT Channel 4 covered a story about Homero Guzman, an elderly man who was robbed at gunpoint outside a South McAllen Church’s Chicken and how his granddaughter Cassie Luevano, who happens to be a Republican Party staffer, claimed the suspect of being an illegal alien, using twitter to spread her grandfather’s incident, pining for stringent border security to a point where even the Governor of Texas replied to her directly.

In October of last year, we reported that former Hidalgo County Commissioner A.C. Cuellar filed a lawsuit against newly elected Commissioner David Fuentes alleging election finance misconduct to the tune of $550,000 of unreported expenditures and contributions during the May primary elections.
Last Wednesday, however, A.C. Cuellar’s attorneys have filed an amended petition that included new allegations of misconduct as well as add Ezequiel Reyna, Jr., a prominent mid-Valley attorney who also happens to be Fuentes’ uncle, to the lawsuit. Keep Reading

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (D-McAllen) and Congressman Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville) have both released statements today that they will not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration Friday.
Earlier this week TEA released a preliminary A-F Accountability report grading schools for their performance for the 2015-2016 school year. Beginning in 2017, per HB 2804, TEA will issue “A-F” grades for school districts to measure their performance, abandoning their “meets standards-needs improvement” model. Districts are split as to whether this is a good idea or not, but either way, it’s hard to argue that the model DOESN’T give parents an easier snapshot of how well or how poorly their local district is performing.
